How to form the imperative of YOU and YOU

 

We continue with the imperative again , this time we want to present you and you forms , which indicate formality and / or courtesy.

 

First, we will remember the uses that we advance in the previous post . Remember that this is a widely used mode in Spanish . Let’s see what it is for by reviewing the forms you and you :

 

1) Give orders

Listen to the dialogue and complete the exercises .

2) Give instructions

On the second street, pass the traffic light and then turn right .

3) Give advice and recommendations

Live and enjoy your life, you only have one .

4) Grant permission

Close the window if you are cold .

5) Make an invitation

Come to my house for dinner .

6) Offer something

Take, take a gum .

 

The imperative has its own forms only in the second person of the plural and the singular ( you , you ); in the rest of the people it coincides with the subjunctive mode. Look at the following examples with the form you :

Note that the form I of the present indicative is taken as the basis . You must also learn that there are some verbs with irregularities:

 

 

Now let’s see how you are formed, you will see that you just have to add one -n:

 

 

The verbs with irregularities in you (make, leave, put, go, come, etc.) are the same as in the form you .

 

We also want to clarify that in public posters it is possible to replace the imperative with the infinitive . Observe:

Finally, let’s see what happens with pronouns in the formal imperative. As we saw in the forms of you and you , in the affirmative imperative the pronouns are placed behind the verb forming a single word:
